Not bushcraft related but urban convenience, although I could imagine this being "urban survival" in Ukraine right now.

Awesome for travellers. It's a tool for getting water from industrial, commercial, government sites; all those places that have taps with no handles. I bought a couple, mostly because of my dog. I bought a popular 4 way key design (4 different sized tap undoers). It's really a bit big and heavy for my normal urban kit which just has a few essential useful things, but it seems like a worthwhile tool. If anyone knows the most common size for udoing taps on these buildings, I'd love to know; you can get single size sillcock keys that are smaller and lighter.

Blast from the past- I could have used one of these on a recent section of the GNW.
I'll have to track down a brass one like Mozzie's and clip it to my pack.

Actually, I have to update on this. The last few times I've tried to use this key, none of the 4 options have fitted the taps. It makes me think that councils have caught on.

That's a shame Randall. Has your key previously worked at those sites?

I've never tried the same place twice. I've only used it out of convenience - Basil loves to drink from running water . The places it has worked were non government; but I've probably only used it 7x all up; 3 recent fails out of that 7.

Frustratingly, the ones I couldn't open I also could not see what they were. I should have unpacked my torch, put on my glasses, and had a good look :ROFLMAO:. The top did look round as far as I could tell. I don't think I saw slots at the sides, which would match up to one of those cabinet keys. Might have to strike up a conversation with a council dude :). I've tried to research further re silcock keys but there doesn't seem to be anything new.

Thanks for the update Randall & Mozzie. Hopefully the councils haven't changed them. I would have thought the vandal proof taps were to stop kids leaving them running rather than forward thinkers who carry sillcock jeys, but who knows!

Thrud that tool looks like it would cover all conceivable bases.
