Scientific name: Arenaria interpres

Common Name: Ruddy Turnstone

Order: Charadriiformes

Family: Scolopacidae

Other Names: Turnstone, Sea-Dotterel, Beach Bird.

Distribution: Widespread around the coastline of Australia, Tasmania and islands.

Habitat: Rocky coastline, reefs, shallow pools, mudflats, beaches.

Field Notes: Orange-red legs, dark and stocky wedge shaped bill, white under parts, dark brown grey upper parts, mottled brown and black chest.
