Scientific Name: Platalea regia

Family: Threskiornithidae

Order: Ciconiiformes

Other Names: NA.

Distribution: Found throughout eastern and northern mainland Australia. Also found in New Zealand, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, some south-western Pacific islands.

Habitat: Shallow freshwater and saltwater wetlands, intertidal mud flats and wet grasslands. Both permanent and temporary inland waters are used when available in the arid zone. Will also use artificial wetlands such as sewage lagoons, saltfields, dams and reservoirs.

Field Notes: Large white waterbird with black, spatulate (spoon-shaped) bill, facial skin black to behind eyes, small patch of red on forehead and yellow skin above each eye. Legs and feet black. Size 74-81 cm.

More pics to be added when I can capture him without flying away. Still haven't got good pics after 4 days, pesty ducks keep alerting him.
