Scientific Name: Malurus melanocephalus

Family: Maluridae

Order: Passeriformes

Other Names: Red-backed Wren, Scarlet-backed Wren,"Black-headed Wren


Distribution: Found across Australia's Top end and down the East coast to Northern NSW

Habitat: : this bird inhabits dense undergrowth and thick grasslands usually around water.

Field Notes: Size: 13cm Habitat: Feeds on insects. Notes: Black Wren with red patch on back, brown wings. Breeds Spring-Mid Summer.

THe grass is Johnson grass, which makes a fine tinder after the plants have died and dried off, remaining dry even in wet weather.
