Common Name: Purple-crowned Lorikeet

Scientific name: Glossopsitta porphyrocephala

Family: Psittacidae

Order: Passeriformes

Other Names: Porphyry-crowned Lorikeet, Zit Parrot, Blue-crowned Lorikeet, Purple-capped Lorikeet Lory, Lorikeet, and Purple-capped Parakeet (SOURCE: Wikipedia)

Distribution: Southern WA, SA & VIC.

Habitat: Dry sclerophyll forest.

Field Notes: Dark purple crown, yellow-orange forehead and patch behind eye, green upper parts; chin, chest and belly are powder blue, thighs and under-tail area are yellowish-green. Look for large crimson patches under the wings which are visible when in flight; black bill and grey legs and feet.
