Scientific Name: Platycephalus fuscus

Common Name Dusky Flathead

Other Names: NA

Distribution: All Australian states

Habitat: estuaries, tidal lakes, rivers and bays as well as offshore sand bars.

Identifying Feature: Flat Fish

Field Notes: A dark green to black colour on top an white underneath. Sharp spines along the dorsal fin. A large mouth with numerous small teeth. A long powerful body, thickest at the head and thinning toward the tail. A flat head and body. It lies still under the sand with on,y the eyes visible and wait for a passing fish to strike.

Fishing: Best to use a live bait. Drop the bait to the bottom and drift over suspected sand bars. Can also be caught of a lure.
