Plant Palm with serrated stems?

I'm guessing this is some kind of palm.
Any ideas?





The stems are serrated with what looks like pretty sharp spikes.

There are loads of these around the area I took these photos so if I can identify it and find out what it can be used for it would be a good resource.

Looks to be one of the fan palms, not sure which one, would be pretty fibrous but check protected status.
