My latest mini-lathe project was to make a leaf splitter.

A while beck I learned the technique of using a pin to split strappy leaves (like lomandra, flax etc) and I have been using a drawing pin for the task.

Using the mini-lathe I turned up a nice little handle and glued a needle in the end.

This is a first class splitter and I was able to split a bunch of leave in no time flat:

... the reason you may want to split leaves like this is to enable them to dry and be used to twist into cordage or woven into a basket / mat.
