Scientific Name: Platycephalus laevigatus

Common Name Rock Flathead

Other Names: NA

Distribution: Southern half of Australia, including Tasmania.

Habitat: reef areas with scatted sand and mud

Identifying Feature: Flat Fish

Field Notes: Olive green/brown with gray patches on top an white underneath. Sharp spines along the dorsal fin. A large mouth with numerous small teeth. A long powerful body, thickest at the head and thinning toward the tail. A flat head and body. All fins aside from the anal fin have brown spotting.

Fishing: Best to use a live bait. Drop the bait to the bottom and drift over suspected location. Can also be caught off a lure.
