Here is a quote from the book :
Plants of Tropical North Queensland . The compact guide .

John Beasley .

Re. Lantana camara .

“The plant is poisonous to stock , and the unripe fruit are particularly poisonous to humans , and can be fatal .”

Now a quote from -Wild Food Plants Of Australia .

Tim Low .

“The tiny purplish black fruits of Lantana (Lantana Camara) are edible .”

And now a Quote , from -Bush Tucker . Australias Wild Food Harvest .

By Tim Low (again)

He says 25276020-AFE5-47E6-B2DB-A05CA2B1868E.jpegLantana (Lantana Camara)

“Most people wrongly think the fruits are poisonous. “

This is one example of books on bush tucker , with contradictory or incomplete information I have come across .

Don’t know if the unripe fruit is poisonous , Certainly wont be eating them however . the ripe ones are not really worth mucking around with anyway , so small .

Though if you look at a bunch of fruit , about the size of a 5 or 10 cent piece and there is fruit that is possibly fatally poisonous with fruit that is not next to it then thats a too close call .weeks , days ripening ?

So often I read something describes something as edible then find somewhere else more critical information .

You have to be very careful with this stuff , and who actually knows what they are talking about , or repeating information.

Actually the Childrens Health Queensland government says its poisonous and seek immediate medical assistance if any part is eaten ! And “Fatalities have been reported when berries have been eaten”.

Edit : here is what wilipedia says about Lantana

“The edibility of Lantana berries is contested. Some experts claim Lantana berries are edible when ripe[11][12][13] though like many fruit are mildly poisonous if eaten while still green. Other experts claim that experimental research indicates that both unripe and ripe Lantana berries are potentially lethal, despite claims by others that ripe berries are not poisonous.[14]
