Scientific name: Larus dominicanus

Common Name: Kelp Gull

Order: Charadriiformes

Family: Laridae

Other Names: Dominican Gull

Distribution: Most common in South West and South East Australia including Tasmania. Also recorded along the East coast as far as QLD.

Habitat: Sandy beaches, rocky coasts, estuaries, bays, harbours & off shore islands.

Field Notes: Black upperparts and wings. The head, underparts & tail are white. The bill is yellow with a red spot. The legs are greenish-yellow. See photos below for differences between Adult and Juveniles.
