You've reminded me that it's time to do a batch of charcloth.
I think the last batch was cooked close to 10 years ago.
200kg of quartz should last you well!

charcloth do lose potency and pick up moisture over time so it is probably best to cook up a new batch, still don't discard the old batch, just use it as a coal extender and heat increase. It won't take a spark all that well but will still ember well.

While I have so much stone on hand I am always on the lookout for more, you can never have enough.

200kg sounds like a lot, but how long would it actually last you?

I practice a LOT, every day with flint and steel, plus demos and doing my forging and youtube so I do burn through a lot of stone. Flint and steel is my passion, when I want to relax I spark steel against stone. AS I said above while I have a lot of stone on hand I am always on the lookout for more.

It does help to have a bit of supply of raw flint stone on hand.

A few hours ago dug out the box of the 3 kg's of S.A stone which I bought from Rocky Instincts a while back and spalled up a couple of nice flint stones ready for the next fire light.

That S.A stone sparks well and is reasonably priced.

Aussie flint is great, I've had the chance to compare it to flint from all over the world, several different types of English and US flints and some from Europe and only Norfolk flint is 'better'

I bought a packet of flints from Beaver Bushcraft, very nice dark shards. Think they may be Norfolk flint. Just looking at the packet and realised I have not yet taken one of these on a real campfire lighting as yet.

Been so satisfied with either the U.S or S.A pieces I have. Must put a piece of the U.K flints in the possible pouch ready for the next trip.

yes, the Beaverbushcraft flint is usually sourced from Norfolk, top-of-the-line flint and rates 8 Moh's whereas all other flint scores 7 Moh's. That's how I got my Norfolk flint.
