Common Name: Great-crested Grebe

Order: Podicipediformes

Family: Podicipedidae

Other Names: N/A

Distribution: Recorded through Australia but more common frequently in the East.

Habitat: Rivers, lagoons, lakes, swamps, reservoirs, saltfields, estuaries and bays.

Field Notes: Largest grebe species found in Australia, long neck and head with a distinctive black crest, brown wings, white underparts, a black crown, white face, red eye.
