Scientific name: Carduelis carduelis

Common Name: European Goldfinch

Order: Passeriformes

Family: Fringillidae

Other Names: N/A

Distribution: Introduced in the 19th century - now mainly found in South-eastern Australia, including Tasmania.

Habitat: Farmland, weedy areas, parks, gardens and other urban habitats.

Field Notes: Red face, black crown, black shoulders, white patches on side of head, brown upper parts, white rump, black tail with white tip, black wings with yellow bar.
