Scientific name: Charadrius bicinctus

Common Name: Double-banded Plover

Order: Charadriiformes

Family: Charadriidae

Other Names: Double-banded Dotterel

Distribution: Mainly found in the East and South East of Australia including Tasmania.

Habitat: Beaches, mudflats, sewage farms, fields, shingle.

Field Notes: Breeding male; white below, grey-brown above with two bands across chest - a black upper band, and a chestnut lower band. White forehead, black band running from eye to eye, white eyebrow, short black bill, greenish-yellow legs. Non-breeding; both chest bands fade and are less obvious.
