ok another experiment, this time going to char several cattail heads, saw that you can do this so I thought why not?

My mum has these in her garden so I have a steady supply of them, I just have to wait for them to grow every season.

OK cattail char was a bit of a failure sort of, the charred cattail would not take a spark from flint and steel successfully.

I tried for a fair bit, casting sparks down into it as well as gathering up a good size bit of the char and using it as you would normally use charred cloth/material (and laying it on the stone and driving sparks into it as usual) and it just would hold a spark, I could get it to catch a spark occasionally but it would not ember and would peter out.

I did however use a ferro rod (my 10") and that worked a treat, got one of the stems to start to ember which was very good, and would be very good for ember transfer or putting in a birdsnest.

Plus I am thinking solar ignition and my 6x magnifying
