Family: Rallus philippensis

Family: Rallidae

Order: Gruiformes

Other Names: Corncranke, Banded Landrail

Distribution: Most of Australian mainland (except dry areas) and Tasmania.Also on oceanic islands

Habitat: Vegetation by swamps,streamsand wet areas

Field notes: Medium sized rail 280-300mm.Keeps to cover.Usually reclusive but may become tame.Omnivorous.Conservation status'least concern.Vunerable to predation by domestic cats.
