BPS Savage CSH.jpg

I ordered this one direct from BPS as the Feebay sellers were being ......................... ? What word to use ?
Anyways , they were charging more than BPS and postage gouging !
I suppose with Putin attacking the Ukraine , some people see an opportunity to profit .
Seems to be a lot of that going on .

Ordered 20 August 2022 From BPS in Ukraine
Arrived 13 Oct 2022
Cost $51.81 USD shipped .. At the time .
So about a month and a half wait for this one .

Anyways , finally got my hands on the BPS I wanted .
Edge looks to be a convex grind , this be my first one .
It is a full flat grind with a max blade thickness of 2.8mm , this does mean that there is some blade flex .. ( I can flex the blade with my bare hands )
It's only a small amount , butt !
Grip is a few mm on the small side and the wood handles make for a slightly slippery grip .
I did put a small lanyard ( paracord ) on this one , as pulling the knife can be tricky . Only two fingers worth of grip is presented for withdrawing the knife . The lanyard gives the user more to hold onto as well the lanyard is not slippery like wood .

Sheath looks to be very well made and sturdy .
The knife is held nice N tight in the sheath ( hence the need for the lanyard ) .
Anything more to say ? ( Video soon ) .

Ok , where are we ..
That's right , cut some rope ..
BPS Savage , convex edge ... 60/55 HRC ( 60HRC file bites / 55HRC file skates )

Oh dear ! ............. 150 slice fail !
I know , some people CROW about the convex edge ! How superior it is & bla bla blabbety bla !
I did how ever like the convex edge . It felt fantastic on the wood . Was very controllable and easy to manage .
Butt ! & it's a huge butt at that . The 150 slice fail was not a great selling point .
I will strop till I drop to bring the edge back to being strong ( sharp ) , and cut rope again .
And then I might completely destroy the convex edge with my wet stone grinder !

Being a little woods-crafty .. The finger guard / blade curve / that keeps your fingers away from the edge was a hot spot when scrapping with the spine .
So much so I rolled it forward with my bench grinder ..

Oh those slippery wood grips , what am I going to do with them ?
Seriously , just way slippery !
I had to buy it , I had to see for myself .
Would I buy again ? A question best saved till after I destroy the convex edge !

Take 2 or 2nd Chance to impress !

A) Stropped back the factory edge for a 100 slice fail
B) Put the Savage to the wet stone grinder and destroyed the convex edge
C) 60 grit wet stone grinder edge ............

Wow , what can I say ... Crazy sharp at the start .
Around 350 slices I had to increase pressure on the rope as the edge was wearing !
At 400 slices the edge began to roll
At 450 slices the edge had rolled enough for me to call a Soft Fail ( Hard fail at 500 ? )
Anyways the edge was hitting the wood harder and was doing the death roll .
A quick wood strop made a big difference to the paper slice ..

Being Woodsy crafty !
Seriously , there was very little difference in how the edge felt on the wood .
Yes I could feel A difference , but it was minor .
Convex ed 150 or ground 450 ?
I will take the 450 thank you very much !
And the 60 grit ground edge stropped back much stronger than the convex edge , so there is that as well !

450 with the edge rolling .. That's not bad at all .
So at 40USD , + shipping .. $51.81 USD ... I got me a 450 knife .
And with tweaking over time ( bevel ) , I could maybe push that ( Maybe ) .

Regarding Convex ?
Lets just say I can't do Convex justice !
& do I really want to bother doing convex justice ? Or do I just leave it alone ? and mind my own business !
