Common Name: Black Fronted Dotteral

Scientific Name: Elseyornis melanops

Family: Charadriidae

Order: Charadriiformes

Distribution: widespread throughout most of Australia.

Habitat: freshwater wetlands, around the edges of lakes and billabongs

Field Notes: distinctive black face-mask and breast-band and prominent chestnut scapulars . Legs are pink orange, and the bill is red with a black tip. The dark eye is ringed with red.

Common Name: Black-fronted Dotterel

Order: Charadriiformes

Family: Charadriidae

Other Names: Black-fronted Plover

Distribution: Widespread throughout Australia.

Habitat: Wetlands, lakes, rivers and marshes; normally found near freshwater.

Field Notes: Small wader, black face-mask and chest, chestnut shoulder feathers, pink/orange legs, red bill with black tip dark eye with a red eye ring.
