Scientific name: Limosa lapponica
Common Name: Bar-tailed Godwit

Distribution: Breed in the Northern Hemisphere and arrive in Australia in August. More numerous in Northern Australia but can be found throughout Australia's coastal areas.
Habitat: Coastal areas, mudflats, mangroves and beaches.
Field Notes: A large wader, non-breeding plumage; mostly mottled brown and buff below, long slightly upturned bill.
