Hi everyone.
Joined up to learn.
Haven't been doing to much camping, hiking for many years.
Life gets in the way.
Took a week off last week and headed up to Collin's weir out the back of Mareeba or 3 days and to a mates camp in the same general area for two days.
I got the bug bad now.
Looking to learn more about bush foods/medicines in this area.

Even managed to climba decent sized ridge to get a better view that week.

Great that you've made it back to the bush.

I'm not so sure about hanging the meat over the edge of the weir (in your picture) :_risata: .... hopefully there aren't any crocs there ?

Thanks.
Nah no crocs up that way. If there was I'd be a human burrito in the hammock. :_lol:

Minus three degrees one morning at that spot.
Loved it.
Planning a trip away next month (same general area) this time with the wife.
Cheers Oldnslow

Lovely photo of the sun rising over the weir and I have been up to Cairns a few years ago. Excellent place with plenty of things to see and would like to make a return visit sometime.

Crocs were a continual worry though, I am very wary of them.

Enjoy your camps and travels.

Thanks Chigger
I figure there is only so much time left to see what is in this area, so it makes sense to get out and about.
The Atherton tablelands has so much history and some amazing places to visit.

Sometimes you have to spend a few nights out to enjoy what is there.

G'day Oldnslow. Welcome along for the ride. Looks like a good setup and the yabbies look like a good meal.
When we were travelling around Australia, the Atherton Tablelands was a firm favourite. Unfortunately, we didn't spend enough time there.
If you have questions, ask away. Plenty of knowledge here to draw upon.
Cheers

G'day mate. That's my old stomping grounds. Tablelands boy but from up the wet end. Did a few years with 51FNQR traipsing around the Cape. Collins weir is a nice spot!

Thanks Gents.
Barefoot dave, any thoughts on a good book relating to the area for bush foods?
I want to become more aware of the bush foods and medicines in the North.

I have one by tim low, but nothing specific to the North of Qld.

I am a new bloke to the Nth... only been here since 1980... :linguino:

G'day mate. Vic Cherikoff-The Bushfood handbook is a good general one. Not FNQ specific though. Chase up the CSIRO in Atherton, they'll put you right on the local guides. 1980 eh? Almost a local

I'd recommend this book ,
485 plants ,with photographs, many edible , to add to your knowledge.
It will give a good idea of what's about , to use with your other sources.

Hello and Welcome to the forum. I’m located in northern Queensland too, but definitely not a local yet! Definitely looking forward to exploring more of the tablelands.
Looks like a great spot in Collins Wear. Is that private property or fairly free to access?
I reckon I’m going to keep an eye for those books too.

It is a station.
But Sunwater has access as far as I know.
Leave no trace, be respectful and it is all good. :eek:kkiale:

Thanks for the welcome. :_sii:

Yay, another convert. You won't regret going to the trees.
Wow, the Safari XXL. That looks to be a big hammock. Plenty of room to move.

Thanks Bloffy.
I've told a few I'd convinced the wife to start swinging.:risatonaD::_lol:

Now can't wait to go out and hang her....

Also bought two DD tarps 3x3 and 4x4.
Will see how that goes as well.
